La medida establece que los policías deben parar e interrogar a las personas de quienes se sospeche que puedan ser inmigrantes indocumentados. Ha habido mucha especulación en torno a la demanda federal desde la aprobación de la medida hace dos meses. Clinton habló del plan del gobierno en una entrevista que fue concedida a un canal de televisión ecuatoriano a principios de este mes, pero que recién alcanzó notoriedad el jueves.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has disclosed the Obama administration will sue Arizona over its anti-immigrant law. The measure requires police officers to stop and interrogate anyone they suspect is an undocumented immigrant. There has been heavy speculation of a federal lawsuit since the measure’s approval two months ago. Clinton discussed the administration’s plan in an interview with an Ecuadorian television station that was conducted earlier this month but only came to public attention on Thursday.

Republicans in the state of Arizona are considering introducing legislation that would deny birth certificates to children born in Arizona to parents who are not legal US citizens. Such legislation would appear to violate the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which states that all persons born in the United States are citizens of the United States. The chief supporter of denying birth certificates to the children of immigrants is Republican lawmaker Russell Pearce. He recently helped draft Arizona’s new anti-immigrant law that orders police officers to stop and interrogate anyone they suspect is an undocumented immigrant.

ACLU And Civil Rights Groups File Legal Challenge To Arizona Racial Profiling Law
PHOENIX – The American Civil Liberties Union and a coalition of civil rights groups filed a class action lawsuit today in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona challenging Arizona's new law requiring police to demand "papers" from people they stop who they suspect are not authorized to be in the U.S. The extreme law, the coalition charged, invites the racial profiling of people of color, violates the First Amendment and interferes with federal law.
